JAMMU, Dec 30: Army today averted fire incidents in the remote village Jangalwar in Doda district and in the forest area near village Hanga in Bhaderwah.
Defence spokesman Lt Colonel Manish Mehta said that a major fire incident in village Jangalwar was averted by the Jangalwar-based Rashtriya Rifles battalion, today. The incident took place in the morning when heaps of haystack at the village caught fire and started spreading like wildfire, he added.
He said that on the request of the villagers, a column of 84 personnel including 4 JCOs of 8 Rashtriya Rifles equipped with various hand-held fire-extinguishing equipment rushed to the spot.
“After a gallant effort by the Jawans for nearly an hour, the fire was brought under control,” he said.
He said the timely action by the Army prevented the spreading of fire, which could have engulfed the densely populated village and could have caused serious damage to the lives and property of locals.
“This act of random kindness not only saved precious lives but also helped in strengthening the faith bestowed upon the men in uniform”, he said.
Meanwhile, Rashtriya Rifles located at Bhadarwah got a message from forest Ranger that a fire broke out in the forest area near village Hanga, Bhadarwah late last night, Lt Col Mehta added.
“Without any delay, a fire fighting team under a Junior Commissioned Officer rushed to the incident site alongwith fire fighting equipment to extinguish the fire and carried out necessary action alongwith the forest department and locals”, he added.
