Arms, explosives haul in Kishtwar

JAMMU, Aug 24: Army and police today recovered a large quantity of arms and explosives from a hideout of the militants from Danna Gali forests in Kishtwar district. The hideout belonged to Hizbul Mujahideen outfit.
Official sources said troops of 8 Rashtriya Rifles and Kishtwar police launched a joint search operation after getting a report of consignment of arms and explosives having been dumped by the militants in the forests.
After search, they recovered the consignment from Danna Gali forests in Bimalnag area of Kishtwar district.
The consignment included two AK rifles, one 9mm carbine machine gun, two pistols, two revolvers, 73 hand grenades, six UBGL grenades, 3254 rounds of different weapons and five radio sets.
The consignment belonged to Hizbul Mujahideen outfit, which was trying to revive itself in Kishtwar ahead of the Assembly elections, sources said, adding that a major plot by the terrorists to disturb the forthcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir has been foiled with huge recovery of arms, ammunition and explosives.
Police have registered a case in this connection under Section 7/25/27 Indian Arms Act and 4/5 Explosive Substance Act at Kishtwar police station.
Sources said Army and police conducted searches in Danna Gali forests and surrounding villages after the recoveries but no arrests were made.
Police party in the operation was supervised by SSP Kishtwar Sanjay Kotwal.
