SRINAGAR, July 23: All Party Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) expressed serious concern over the lack of information available to students of the Sikh community about different central scholarship schemes and demanded implementation of National Commission for Minority Act (NCMA) in the State.
In a statement, Chairman of the APSCC Jagmohan Singh Raina said students of the Sikh community are not aware about the central scholarships available to them.
He alleged that the Social Welfare Department (SWD) has failed to reach out to members of the Sikh community.
“APSCC has decided to start an awareness programme among the students of the community about different scholarships available to them for continuing studies”, he added.
He said very few students of the community are aware about these schemes of the NCMA though the State Government has not yet implemented it.
Under the scheme, assistance starts from Rs 1000 to Rs 30000, which can help students to continue their studies without taking loans from banks and other financial institutions.
Although the NCMA has not been extended to J&K, but scholarship scheme is applicable to minorities in J&K, he stated.
