JAMMU, Sept 10: Andhra Pradesh and Assam Governments today announced Rs 5 crore each for the flood hit victims of Jammu and Kashmir.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced a financial assistance of Rs 5 crore to families of flood victims in Jammu and Kashmir.
Lauding the mammoth multi-agency rescue efforts underway in Jammu and Kashmir to rescue lakhs of people trapped in flood-ravaged areas, the Chief Minister said that the state has sent 300 metric tonnes of ready-to-eat packaged food, a release from Chief Minister’s Office said here today.
The Chief Minister said that 145 metric tonnes of food has already been air-lifted by Air Force personnel. The nutritious food, which is made of wheat, chana dal, milk powder, oil and sugar, is uncooked and can be consumed by mixing water.
Assam Government has extended financial assistance of Rs 5 crore for the relief of flood-hit people of Jammu and Kashmir, spokesman of the Chief Minister Office (CMO) said here.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today directed officials that Rs five crore be given from the State Government for the people affected by unprecedented flood in the northern State.
Meanwhile, Assam’s Additional Director General of Police (Vigilance and Anti Corruption) Rajkumar Chandranathan reached Jammu and Kashmir to render assistance to the people of Assam stranded in that State.
Chandranathan, who would be camping at Srinagar, has informed the State Government that there was no report of casualty of people from Assam so far.
DMDK President Vijayakanth today announced a personal contribution of Rs ten lakh to the Prime Minister National Disaster Relief Fund for the flood-affected Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement here, he said the J&K is witnessing the worst-ever floods to hit the State in the last 60 years. Largescale loss of life and property had been reported and relief and rescue operations being undertaken by the the Armed Forces.
Gujarat Government has send 56,000 food packets for the flood victims of Jammu and Kashmir. The food packets were sent last night from the airport here in the presence of Minister of State for Health Shankar Chaudhary, a Government release said today.
The food items were collected by NGOs and other organisations. Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel had yesterday announced an assistance of Rs 5 crore for the flood victims of Jammu and Kashmir.
She also announced that the state would provide one lakh food packets daily for J&K flood victims for five days from yesterday in coordination with the Centre.
Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) today pledged Rs five lakh as its contribution for relief in flood-hit areas in Jammu and Kashmir.
The contribution would be made to the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister’s relief fund, KPCC president V M Sudheeran told reporters here today.
State Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, who is in Delhi to co-ordinate efforts to bring back Malayali tourists caught unaware by the floods in Kashmir, said all the people from the state are safe.
As many as 91 of them had been brought to Delhi and the others are expected to be brought to the national capital by tomorrow.
The Haryana Goverrnment will send 50 thousand blankets for flood affected people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has announced to send 50 thousand blankets for flood affected people of J&K,”AICC General secretary incharge for Haryana Shakeel Ahmed said today.
He urged others states to come forward to pitch in for relief efforts for the flood hit.
The Haryana Government’s announcement comes a day after Congress president Sonia Gandhi instructed Congress Chief Ministers to contribute towards relief/rehabilitation measures in J&K.
Meanwhile, IRCTC, a railway undertaking, has joined relief operations for flood-affected people in Jammu and Kashmir by supplying them 1.92 lakh bottles of drinking water until yesterday with one lakh more bottles on the way today.
“IRCTC tied up with Air Force authorities. The first lot of railneer (its branded water), comprising 5,520 cartons carrying 66,240 one liter bottles, was airlifted from Palam Air Base here on September 7,” it said in a statement today.
It sent 25,920 bottles the next day by train to Jammu while over one lakh bottles were again airlifted on September 9 for the people in Kashmir”.
IRCTC is dispatching water from its plant in Nangloi.
