JAMMU, May 4: Anurag Sharma of Aryan Oriental Convent Higher Secondary School, Udhampur, bagged the first gold medal in the Junior Boys category during the Udhampur, Samba and Reasi District Sport Climbing Competitions held at Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Bantalab, here today. Akhil Sharma won the silver medal while Shahitya Sharma and Varun Kumar shared the bronze.
In the Junior Boys category of Samba District, Rijul Sharma clinched the gold after a tough contest with Dhairy Sharma and Vidyut Sharma, who secured silver and bronze respectively. In the Men’s category of Samba District, Nikhil Kumar emerged as the winner followed by Adarsh Sharma and Dheeraj. Dhariti Sharma topped the Women’s category while Jyoti Choudhary and Bhavna claimed second and third places.
In the Under-10 categories of Samba, Bhavneet Kour, Naveet Kour and Arya Singh were the top three among girls, while Nirvaan Padyor, Zorawar Singh and Viren Partap Singh led among boys. Viraj, Nischaya Balhotra, and Sarvagya Singh Saini were winners in the Sub Junior Boys category.
The Udhampur district saw complete dominance by Aryan Oriental Convent climbers in the Mini categories. In Mini Girls, Aliya Alahi, Sanchita Sharma and Kavia Rajput took the podium, while Farz Malik, Ansh Angurana, and Vihaan Ghalgotra led in Mini Boys. Arshad, Abhimanyu Singh and Mohd Ayaan won the Sub Junior Boys category and Akanshika, Ishika Thakur and Varsha Devi stood out in Sub Junior Girls.
Due to low participation, only two competitors featured in the Junior Girls category of Udhampur-Vanshika Kumari and Aaradhya Vaid-who received gold and silver. Tanisha received a consolation prize in Mini Girls. The event, featuring over 210 participants, was organized by the Mountaineering Association of J&K and sponsored by the J&K Sports Council.
The event, with 210 participants, was inaugurated by Rahul Sharma, Chairman of Sprawling Buds and Patron of Tawi Trekkers J&K, in the presence of dignitaries including Shivani Charak and Sonam Sidharth.
At the prize distribution, ceremony chief guest Prof. C.K. Khajuria and guest of honour Arti Sharma presented medals and encouraged young climbers. The championship was organized by Mountaineering Association of J&K and sponsored by J&K Sports Council.
