ANTRIX becons big future, Private industry partnership key: ISRO

BENGALURU, Sept 15:
ISRO’s commercial arm Antrix Corporation Limited has a huge potential to tap the global space market by not only making satellites but launch vehicles also and the agency was ready to provide more space for the private industry participation.
Indian Space Research Organisation Chairman A S Kiran Kumar today said that Antrix had come a long way to be successful, to some extent, but there is much more to be achieved.
Speaking on the sidelines of Silver Jubilee function of Antrix, he said there had been tremendous development in commercial space flights world over and the Indian company has huge opportunity.
Despite being a minor player in the global space, it can catapult itself into a notable player by using cost artibrate and other advantages like using the ISRO technology.
”Antrix will now make major strides in launching of commercial flights of satellites in the world as there is a tremendous opportunity for smaller satellites and even big when it comes to GSLV launches, that can be thought of little later,” Mr Kumar said.
He however said ISRO will provide major impetus to the private Indian industry in the space sector and the strong support will  continue.
He said the key for Antrix is to look for launch of smaller satellite that it has already made a mark.
”But Antrix will also have opportunities in launching all types of satellites atop PSLV, which has huge potential. We can also explore more opportunities for Antrix in GSLV MK II launches, which is now achieved, and even MK III to put heavier satellites into orbit on commercial basis,” the ISRO Chief said.
Mr Kiran Kumar said the country will bid to launch heavier satellites on GSLV platform on commercial basis and Antrix should work towards this programme in the future.
He said now Antrix is harnessing ISRO’s capability to bring it to the market. But it should also look at the market how to bring to the table the industry capability and support ISRO.  ”It is a two way road. (UNI)
