Srinagar, Oct 28: A truck driver was killed by suspected militants today in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, police said.
Narayan Dutt, a resident of Katra in Reasi district, was fired upon by the militants in the evening in the Kanilwan area of Bijbehara in the south Kashmir district of Anantnag, a police official said.
Dutt died on the spot, he added.

A senior police official, who was nearby, rushed to the scene of the incident and managed to save two other truck drivers who were in the vicinity, police said.
The area has been cordoned off and a hunt launched to nab the attackers, they said.
In the past few days, militants killed three truck drivers, a trader from Punjab and a migrant labourer in Kashmir.
Meanwhile, at least 20 people were injured in a grenade attack at the busy market in Sopore town of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district today.
A senior police officer said that 20 people were injured when militants threw a grenade at a busy market place in Sopore town this afternoon.
The grenade was hurled in the Bus Stand area where lot of vendors were selling merchandise. It created panic in the market and people fled the area.
“People were present in the market in large numbers. Street vendors were also busy selling vegetables, fruit and clothing. All of a sudden a huge explosion took place. Few injured were lying down on the road and other fled to reach the hospital”, said an eye witness.
Soon after the attack, people removed the injured to the Sub District Hospital Sopore. A woman was hit with splinters and she was critical. Four injured were immediately referred to SMHS hospital Srinagar where the condition of woman was stated to be critical.
Some of the injured have been identified as Javaid Ahmed Sofi, Assadullah, Isfhaq Ahmed, Ashoor Ahmed, Mushtaq Ahmed Dar, Bashir Ahmed, Barkat Ahmed, Rabiya Begum, Iram Begum, Samina Begum, Farooq Ahmed, Nisar Ahmed, Shafat Ahmed, Jabeena Begum, Adnan, Shakir Ahmed Dar and Abdul Khaliq.
Senior police and security officials reached the spot and the area was cordoned off and searches were conducted against those responsible for the attack. However, no one was arrested.
This is the second grenade attack since Saturday evening (October 26), when militants lobbed a grenade at CRPF’s Naka Party outside SMHS hospital Srinagar in which six CRPF men sustained injuries.
