Another intrusion bid foiled

JAMMU, Oct 18: Pakistan Army last night again resorted to heavy firing on Indian positions on the Line of Control (LoC) at Mankote in Krishna Ghati sector in Poonch district. During the firing, a group of three to five militants reportedly made an attempt to infiltrate into this side but failed in their plot.
Official sources said after resorting to firing at Gountrian last evening, Pakistan Army started heavy firing at Mankote in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district at 11.30 pm last night.
Indian side gave adequate response.
Sources said the firing continued till 1 am. A group of three to five militants reportedly tried to infiltrate into this side taking cover of firing by the Pakistani troops. Sensing intrusion bids, the troops from this side fire at the militants to neutralize them and thwart their infiltration attempt.
The troops didn’t allow the militants to come close to the Indian territory. Finding the troops alert, the militants retreated to Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK), from where they had been launched into this side.
In the morning, troops conducted searches in the forward areas along the LoC in Mankote and surrounding villages. However, there were no traces of militants.
“The infiltration bid had been successfully thwarted’’, sources said.
During last night alone, the militants made two infiltration bids in Poonch sector. According to sources, Pakistan firing at Gountrian was also reportedly aimed at pushing the militants into this side. However, effectively retaliatory firing by the Army didn’t allow the militants to sneak into this side.
It may be mentioned here that Pakistan Army had repeatedly been resorting to firing on the LoC in twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch apparently with a view to push militants into this side. Few such attempts have also been made along the International Border (IB) in Jammu sector. However, Army and BSF have foiled all such bids successfully.
In Uri sector of Baramulla district recently, the Pakistan Army had killed three civilians in unprovoked firing.
In Samba and RS Pura sectors also, a BSF jawan had been killed and some others including two civilians were injured in firing by the Rangers.
Sources said Army and BSF have already lodged strong protest with Pakistani troops over their unprovoked firing and ceasefire violations.
