JAMMU, Aug 24: Jammu today reported another Corona casualty and 157 positive cases including three doctors and three Nurses, an official each from PWD and SSA offices, four more persons from Jagti, three of them from a family, four persons from Bakshi Nagar, three from Sainik Colony, three from Northern Command, six members of two families from Udhampur, five persons of two families in Poonch, four of a family in Kishtwar, five more persons from Suchaini in Samba, an SPO posted in Bari Brahamana police station and an official in the SSP Office Rajouri while 95 persons were treated for the virus and discharged from the hospitals.
A 53-year-old man from Bakshi Nagar, who was admitted in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu with multiple problems and COVID positive, died this evening, Medical Superintendent Dr Dara Singh said. He added that body of the COVID victim has been packed as per protocol and kept in mortuary for cremation tomorrow.
With this, Jammu’s Corona casualty figure has gone up to 48 and that of Jammu district to 33. Other deaths in Jammu region have been reported from Poonch and Rajouri districts (three each), two each from Doda, Samba and Udhampur districts and one each from Kishtwar, Ramban and Kathua districts.
Meanwhile, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) CEO Ramesh Kumar told the Excelsior that the pilgrims other than Jammu and Kashmir intending to visit holy cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi Ji will be requiring ICMR valid negative certificate for COVID-19 not older than 48 hours to visit the Bhawan for darshan.
The Shrine Board has out of 2000 pilgrims quota per day reserved 100 registrations for the persons outside J&K and 1900 for locals of Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier, the outsiders arriving without negative reports for COVID-19 were tested at Katra and allowed to proceed to the shrine if found negative. Four yatris-two each from Bihar and Madhya Pradesh-have so far tested positive at Katra.
“The outside pilgrims will now have to bring negative test report with them from any ICMR certified laboratory not older than 48 hours to proceed for the cave shrine,” Kumar said.
The decision has been taken for safety of the pilgrims.
Meanwhile, a total of 65 persons today tested positive for COVID-19 in Jammu district, 36 with no travel history.
Two doctors from Surgery Department and one from Radiology and two Nurses from Emergency Wing of the GMC Jammu tested positive for the virus today.
A Staff Nurse posted in Sub District Hospital Akhnoor, who was pregnant, has also tested positive. She hailed from Gurha Pattan, Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Akhnoor Ajay Sharma said, adding that the hospital has been sanitized. The Nurse has been sent to Gandhi Nagar hospital for caesarean
A Government teacher deployed in Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) office at Narwal tested Corona positive today, SSA Director Arun Manhas said. He added that the SSA office has been closed for three days for sanitization and testing of contacts of the teacher.
A part of the Lok Nirman Bhawan (PWD office) at Bahu Plaza was shut temporarily for sanitization after one of the employees hailing from Miran Sahib reported COVID positive. Police teams from Trikuta Nagar headed by SHO Inspector Deepak Pathania visited the spot.
Four more persons from Migrant Colony Jagti Nagrota including three family members, one of them two year-old child, four persons from Bakshi Nagar, three from Sainik Colony and a couple from Govindpura have also tested COVID positive.
Other positives of Jammu district include 53-year-old woman from Gujjar Nagar, 58-year-old man from Nagbani, 57-year-old man from Gandhi Nagar, 52-year-old woman from Channi Rama, young woman from Bhagwati Nagar, , 30-year-old youth from Digiana, 27-year-old youth from Akalpur, 50-year-old woman from Satwari, young boy from Nowabad, 32-year-old youth from Jagti Nagrota, 22-year-old from Gajansoo, 55-year-old man from Trikuta Nagar and 50-year-old from Vikram Chowk.
Twenty fresh Corona cases were today reported from Udhampur district.
Three of them hailed from Northern Command while three family members each from Billan Bawli and Housing Colony in Udhampur were also positive for the virus. A couple from Chenani, two CRPF and one BSF jawan also tested COVID positive. Rest of the positives were travelers.
District Magistrate Udhampur Dr Piyush Singla has declared Ward No. 21 including Kallar Himti and Suki Karlai areas of Udhampur as Containment Zones after positive cases were reported from there.
Fifteen COVID positive cases have been reported from Samba district, according to SSP Shakti Pathak.
Among them were five more persons from Suchaini in Vijaypur tehsil of Samba district. Yesterday, seven persons from two families of Suchaini had tested positive.
An SPO posted in Bari Brahamana police station who was symptomatic and on leave at home has tested positive. After positive case, SHO Bari Brahamana Inspector Arjun Singh Chib and other personnel will be subjected to COVID test tomorrow. Entry of outsiders in Bari Brahamana police station has been stopped for few days.
Other positive cases of Samba district belonged to Birpur, Ward No. 10 Bari Brahamana, Main Samba, Diani, and Vijaypur. A person each from Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh also tested positive in Samba, Pathak said.
Rajouri district also reported 14 new Corona cases today including an official from Establishment Section of the SSP office. The SSP had tested positive yesterday. Three persons from Nowshera and one from Kalakote have also tested positive in the district.
Fourteen new cases were also reported from Kathua district including seven contacts of positive persons and three travelers. Four other positives persons hailed from Hamirpur Hiranagar, Dewal Billawar, Palli Morh and Bagial Kathua, District Magistrate OP Bhagat said.
Twelve persons have reported Corona positive in Poonch district.
They include five members of two families from Salhutri Jhallas, two from Surankote and one each from Gulhutta Daman Mohra and Gohlad Mendhar. Three positive persons were travelers.
SSP Poonch Ramesh Angral said all positive persons have been shifted to COVID hospitals and Care Centres.
A total of six persons today tested COVID-19 positive in Ramban district.
Two of them hailed from Govindpura Maitra, one of whom had travel history of Srinagar while other was his contact. A police constable from Chanderkote and one person each from Pjago Banihal and Magerkot Ukheral besides a traveler were also infected by the virus in Ramban district, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Ramban Mohammad Fareed Bhat said.
Of five positive cases in Kishtwar district, four were family members from Pinjari and one traveler, District Magistrate Rajinder Singh Tara said.
Of four positives in Doda three were travelers and one was tested during random sampling. They hailed from Bhaderwah, Gandoh and Ghat.
A 57-year-old woman from Dharmari with travel history of Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh was among two Corona positive cases in Reasi district.
Meanwhile, 95 Corona patients were today discharged from various COVID hospitals of Jammu region after testing negative with maximum being 32 in Jammu district followed by 14 in Reasi, 11 Ramban, nine each in Samba and Poonch district, seven Udhampur, five each in Kathua and Kishtwar districts and three in Rajouri district.
With today’s positives, as per the official figures, Jammu region has 7274 Corona cases including 1530 active as 5697 persons have been treated and discharged while there have been 48 casualties.
Meanwhile, 51 more Corona positive cases were today reported from the Union Territory of Ladakh-45 from Leh and six from Kargil taking total Corona cases to 2330 and active to 790.
As many as 1517 Corona patients have been treated while there were 23 casualties in Ladakh.
