JAMMU, June 8: In fourth incident of targeted attack on police, the miscreants late last night attacked and severely beat up police constable Tarsem Lal, posted as Personal Security Officer (PSO) with SP Operations, Jammu Uday Bhaskar Billa, outside his Trikuta Nagar residence, causing him injuries.
Official sources said Tarsem Lal was on way to the residence of the SP Operations at Trikuta Nagar on a bike in police uniform when six miscreants, riding on three motorcycles, intercepted him and hit him repeatedly with sticks. However, as Tarsem Lal was wearing helmet, he survived the damage. The miscreants managed to escape from the spot before Tarsem Lal raised an alarm and sounded police.
Senior police officials rushed to the spot and shifted Tarsem Lal to hospital. His condition was stable as he survived repeated attacks on his head with helmet. The miscreants directly targeted head of the constable with a view to kill him but the helmet saved the damage.
Police have launched hunt for the accused but no arrests have been made so far.
This was fourth targeted attack on police beginning June 3 when Sub Inspector Arun Sharma was stabbed in broad day light at Ranibagh. Constable Joginder Pal was stabbed the next day at Digiana and his AK-47 rifle was snatched. The rifle was recovered the next day. SPO Narinder Choudhary was beaten up outside Kranti Hotel in Trikuta Nagar on June 6.
Police have registered FIRs in all the attacks. While accused involved in stabbing of SI Arun Sharma have been identified and some of them arrested, in other cases, police was yet to make the arrests.
