SRINAGAR, Feb 8: Jammu and Kashmir Anganwari Workers and Helpers Association (AWHA) today protested here and demanded increase in honorarium.
Scores of the protesters assembled at Pratap Park here raising anti-Government slogans.
The protesters demanded an increase in honorarium for both workers and helpers in Anganwari centres.
The protesters said that they have repeatedly requested the State Government to increase the honorarium of anganwari workers and helpers. The State Government is providing six hundred rupees for helpers and three hundred rupees for workers. “We are demanding maximum honorarium of Rs 10,000 rupees for workers and Rs 18,000 for helpers,” protester said.
“We are almost 61000 employees and we demand justice from the Government,” said a worker.
Another protester said, “We have worked for the state, but it is unfortunate that we are being neglected by the Government now.”
The protesters said that besides doing the anganwari work, they also perform duties of Health Department, Education Department and Social Welfare Department. “But we are never paid for the extra work,” they said.
