JAMMU, Dec 12: In response to the nation-wide agitation, Anganwadi Workers and Helpers of ICDS projects of Social Welfare Department (SWD) staged protest demonstrations and dharnas across the State today.
In Jammu, a large number of Anganwadi Workers/ Helpers under the banner of Anganwadi Workers Welfare Association assembled outside the office of Divisional Commissioner at Rail Head Complex, on Railway Road here and staged protest dharna. They were shouting slogans in support of their demands. Swarna Choudhary provincial president and general secretary Neelam Sharma were leading besides other senior association members.
The agitating workers are demanding that AWW/ Helpers be declared as Government employees and should be provided other benefits at par with the Government employees. They should be paid all the pending salary and in future too, they should be paid their wages in time. They also demanded pension benefits, gratuity, benefits of ESI/Insurance schemes.
They strongly opposed 6-hour duty and said that four duty schedule should be retained. The workers also demanded that they should be paid minimum wages of Rs 11000 and Helpers at least Rs 4500 per month. They demanded that AWWs and Helpers should also be provided uniforms and regular supply of nutrition for running the centers smoothly. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the Divisional Commissioner. After staging day long protest, then the workers dispersed in the afternoon.
