JAMMU, Mar 10: Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Union (AWHU) today staged a protest, demanding an increase in honorarium, regularization of jobs and other benefits.
Hundreds of Anganwadi workers and Helpers from various ICDS Projects of Jammu Division assembled near Press Club, Jammu and raised slogans in support of their demands. The protestors sought at least Rs 20,000 honorarium for Anganwadi workers and Rs 10,000 for helpers. They also demanded that honorarium of Anganwadi workers and helpers be disbursed on monthly basis without any unnecessary delay and stoppages.
Nirmla Sharma, general secretary of the Union, asserted that honorarium liability pending with effect from February 2018 to July 2018 be released and squared in favour of Anganwadi workers and helpers. She urged the authorities to give minimum wage grade and regularize those Anganwadi workers who have completed 10 years or more regular unbreakable service.
The protesting workers also demanded that 100 % promotion to the post of ICDS Supervisor be made from the Anganwadi workers as they are qualified and experienced. They further demanded Rs 5 lakh for Anganwadi workers and Rs 3 lakh for Helpers on their superannuation from their service. They claimed that previous administrations failed to address their concerns and expected the current administration to do so.
They threatened to intensify their protest if their demands are not met. The protestors said that besides doing the Anganwadi work, they also perform duties for the health department, education department, and social welfare department but they were never paid for the extra work.
