Anantnag shortlisted for PM’s Swachh Vidyalaya Award

Anantnag, Mar 2: The Deputy Commissioner, Anantnag, Muneer ul Islam today announced that the district has been shortlisted for the Prime Minister’s Swachh Vidyalaya Award.
He said that Anantnag is among the 20 shortlisted districts of the country that have achieved 100% toilet facility in the schools among the 677 contender districts.
Expressing satisfaction over the performance of the Education and RDD departments, which have achieved the feat of providing toilet facilities to all the schools in a short span of 3 months, he said that shortlisting of Anantnag for the Swachh Vidyalaya is not only a major recognition for the district but it will also inculcate among students, habits of living hygienic life in class rooms and outside. He further said that achievement of providing water, sanitation and hygiene facilities in all the schools is the first step towards achievement of larger goal of providing clean water and better hygienic environment across the district.
He said that gender-separated toilet facilities, especially to the girl students which was an obstacle until now has been removed in the district.
He said that the deadline for making it to final of the Swachh Vidyalaya Award has been fixed on 21st of July and Education Department has been asked to ensure the upkeep of toilet units besides ensuring hygienic environment to the students.
The Deputy Commissioner said that a Central team is also visiting the district in a week’s time for on spot inspection and assessment of the sanitation, drinking water facilities and upkeep of the toilet units provided in schools.
For the implementation of Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyan, out of the total 1555 Government and 380 private run schools 3534 toilet units have been constructed or upgraded and in the district so far under schemes like RMSA and SSA.
