NEW DELHI: Notwithstanding adverse predictions from major Exit Polls vis-a-vis BJP prospects in elections to five states, the party chief Amit Shah on Saturday exuded confidence that the party will retain its hold in three key Hindi heartland states Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
“We will return to power in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh….it will be BJP Governments with absolute majority. And our performance will improve in Telangana and Mizoram also,” Mr Shah told the concluding session of the Jagran Forum organised by the Dainik Jagran group of newspapers.
He said the confidence comes from the performance of the BJP Governments in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh for last 15 years. “We performed well in Rajasthan also,” he said. Dismissing the Exit Polls, Mr Shah maintained even in past most projections and media analyses went against BJP “but ultimately the results went in our favour”.
Answering questions, the BJP chief said the issue of National Register of Citizens (NRC) as was executed in the state of Assam should not be linked to the saffron party alone. “NRC is actually tool that can address one of the chief concerns and issues in the country. No country can be run in a manner like this. Koi bhi akey yean bas jae (That anybody comes and starts living in this country),” Mr Shah said. (AGENCIES)
