Nikki Haley’s rambling response to the questions of pressmen in New York about Kashmir issue reveals her unpreparedness for questions asked. On Kashmir she should have done good spade work before opening up to the media. She thinks that almighty US is charged with the divine responsibility of setting the maladies of the world right by wielding a magic wand. We are surprised by her audacity to speak incoherently on something about which she is no more than a lay person. This is not the language of astute diplomats or their approach to international issues.
Her assertion that “We don’t think, we should wait till something happens” is cynical and a clear indication that she repeats the words Pakistan has put in her mouth. Pakistan, who the US characterizes as the “most allied of allies” has been desperately insisting on Washington to become mediator between her and India over Kashmir issue. All previous administrations in Washington have, for last seven decades, stuck to one policy that this is a bilateral issue between India and Pakistan and if they begin bilateral talks, the US would be prepared to lend its good offices. For all these seven decades, the US never obliged Pakistan on this count. At one time even the UN Secretary General declined to mediate saying the two countries had signed the Shimla Agreement which brings SC’s role to an end.
To put record straight, we will clarify the subject for the information of this Cabinet colleague of President Trump, Kashmir issue has two dimensions. First embraces Indian and Pakistani perception of the dispute. The second dimension is Pakistan’s internationalizing of Kashmir issue to legitimize her meticulously planned world terrorism. Now, the first dimension on October 22, 1947 Pakistan army in tandem with her civilian administration armed, sponsored and abetted tribal invasion of Kashmir to take it by force of arms. People of Kashmir sought military assistance from India for self defence after the then Head of the State signed the accession instrument and J&K became integral part of Indian Union. Tribesmen were defeated and repulsed. However, they were still in illegal occupation of part of the state when, under Anglo-American strategy, the warring countries signed cease fire. India approached the Security Council to declare Pakistan aggressor demanding she vacates illegal occupation. Security Council being the handmaid of Anglo-American bloc played trick with India and illegally converted the event into Indo-Pak dispute. That continues till date. On that count, the two countries have been intermittently talking albeit without any result. After Pakistan’s defeat and separation of her Eastern colony, Shimla Agreement between the two was signed in which both agreed to eschew violence and converted Cease Fire Line into Line of Control. Pakistan agreed to resolve Kashmir through bilateral talks. How then does the US think she will come in for “de-escalation?”
The second is the international dimension of the case. Unable to grab Kashmir through war, straight of proxy, Pakistan hatched the conspiracy of raising jihadi legions to push them into the Indian side and unleash subversion and mayhem to disrupt life in Kashmir. Indian forces countered and foiled the conspiracy. Since world community did not come to Pakistan’s support, she raised enormous jihadi machine to unleash Islamic jihad all over the world using Saudi funding and the American arms she had received for distribution among Afghan mujahideen but had retained 50 per cent of those stockpiles. She is supplying it to jihadis fighting not only in Kashmir but in Pakistan and Af-Pak also where they have got into close liaison with Al Qaeda and other international terrorist groups anchored in Pakistan.
Ironically, the US did not attack and destroy the real source of international terrorism but chose to destroy an Asiatic country which had neither the weapons of mass destruction in the basement nor the war machine to harm American interests. Washington first let Pakistan obtain nuclear weapon clandestinely and then encouraged her to arm Taliban in the hope of removing all traces of progressive ideology in Afghanistan as well as Pakistan. It suits her domination of the Sub-continent.
Trump administration has to understand that the issue with which it is confronted most seriously is not Kashmir but global terrorism with epicenter in Pakistan. It is there and not Kashmir where “something will definitely happen.” India is strong enough not to allow anything to happen that Nikki Haley & Co fantasize about..
