The purpose with which the RTI Act 2009 was enacted in the State will be defeated in case the said Act in amended.
The Act after its enactment created a RTI culture. The RTI activists whether associated with any group or acting individual level sought clarification or details from concerned authorities on any issue they were concerned.
The RTI Act ‘started yielding dividends when the concerned authorities reacted quickly to their requests. During this process many facts came to light in the public interest. Officers who usually were callous or uninterested in revealing information were now on tenterhooks. A process of accountability and transformation had been set in motion in the administration.
In case the RTI is diluted, it will be a toothless tiger as has been rightly described by the agitating activists of JK RTI movement.
