Amarnath yatra to resume today, last batch to leave on Aug 25

JAMMU, Aug 23: After remaining suspended for three consecutive days, the Swami Amarnath yatra to holy cave will be resumed from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas here, early tomorrow morning.
This was stated by an official spokesman today. He said the yatra from Jammu to twin base camps remained suspended for the third consecutive day today also but it will resume tomorrow morning.
The spokesman said the last batch of pilgrims from Jammu will leave for the Valley on August 25 to have the darshan at holy cave next day.
He said there was also no down convoy from twin base camps of Kashmir during last three days and the pilgrims stranded at Nunwan and Baltal will be allowed to proceed for Jammu tomorrow morning.
The spokesman said no yatri was available to proceed from Nunwan to holy cave today due to suspension of yatra from Jammu for last three days. However the pilgrims from Chandanwari, Sheshnag and Panjtarni transit camps left for onwards sojourn early in the morning today. A small group of pilgrims left from Baltal to holy cave this morning, he added.
Meanwhile, the Chhari Mubarak of Swami Amarnath reached Sheshnag from Chandanwari this evening. The Chhari Mubarak after a night stay at Sheshnag and taking a dip at holy spring there will leave for Panjtarni tomorrow morning.
He said the weather on holy cave area was pleasant today and the yatra proceeded smoothly from both the tracks.
Earlier the holy mace led by its sole custodian Mahant Deependera Giri of Dashnami Akhara, Srinagar and accompanied by a group of Sadhus and devotees left Chandanwari for Sheshnag in the morning.
The holy mace, which will reach Panjtarni, the last transit camp on way to cave shrine via traditional Chandanwari track tomorrow evening will stay for two nights there. It will proceed to cave shrine in the wee hours of Sawan Purnima falling on August 26. After performing pooja in the holy cave in a traditional way for the whole day, the Chhari Mubarak will return towards Panjtarni in the evening. After a night halt at Panjtarni the holy mace will start its return journey to Pahalgam where from it will leave for Dashnami Akhara, Srinagar next day after performing immersion ceremonies and other rituals at the bank of river Lidder in Pahalgam. This will mark the culmination of two month long annual Amarnath pilgrimage.
