Amarnath yatra suspended due to rains

SRINAGAR: Pilgrimage to holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas has been suspended from both shortest Baltal and traditional Pahalgam routes due to heavy rains.
Pilgrims, who left Baltal base camp early this morning for the cave shrine, have been stopped at Brarimarg as the track has become slippery due to rain since early this morning. It was still raining in the entire track, a yatra official said.
No pilgrim will be allowed to proceed towards the cave shrine till the weather improves. Similarly, pilgrims, who had left Cave shrine for Baltal base camp early this morning after paying obeisance and having night stay there, were also stopped.
Yatra official said pilgrims, who were on way to cave shrine via traditional Pahalgam track, have also been stopped at different halting stations, where all facilities are available. However, pilgrims, who had night halt at nearby camps, have been paying obeisance since early this morning at the cave shrine.
Yesterday, 2,512 yatris, including women and sadhus, paid obeisance at the holy Amarnath cave shrine. With this, a total of about 2.09 lakh pilgrims had paid obeisance at the cave shrine on the 25th day yesterday. (AGENCIES)
