Amarnath yatra going on smoothly, 2.80 lakh paid obeisance so far

SRINAGAR:Slogans of Bam Bam Bolay and Har Har Mahadev reverberated in the air as fresh batches of pilgrims left Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps for the holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas.
The pilgrimage is going on smoothly as weather is pleasant today, a Yatra Control Room (YCR) official said, adding that so far, 2.80 lakh yatris from different parts of the country had paid obeisance at the self made Ice-Shivlingam in the cave shrine situated at 13,500 feet.
He said fresh batch of yatris, including women, children and sadhus, left Baltal base camp early this morning for the cave shrine. Pilgrims on foot, dandhis and pony backs are scheduled to reach the Cave after covering the 16-km-long track this afternoon.
Meanwhile, pilgrims, who had night halt near the cave after paying obeisance yesterday, have also started their return journey to base camp.
He said a fresh batch of pilgrims also left Nunwan Pahalgam base camp for the cave shrine early this morning. However, some of the pilgrims will have night stay at Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station on traditional route.
He said pilgrims, who had night halt at Panjtarni, also left for the cave shrine to have darshan today. Similarly, the yatris, who who stayed at Pisso top and Sheshang, also started their onward journey towards the cave shrine this morning. (agencies)
