All You Need to Know About FASTag in India

Road trips! People love them. The experience of driving your car through well-connected Indian highways to finally get someplace you’ve been thinking about is a dream come true.Right? However, unexpected stoppages, waiting in queues to pay tolls every now and then can feel like a hassle.

Anyone who has traveled through the highways in India must have faced situations like long queues at the toll plaza, lack of cash required to pay toll, and slow manual processing of cash transactions. As a solution to all these problems, you can now switch to FASTag. What’s FASTag? It’s an electronic, reloadable, easy-to-use mode of paying tollat highways introduced by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MoRTH).

Wondering how FASTag can benefit your road travels? Here is what you need to know:

What is FASTag?

FASTag is an advanced, yet simple-to-use tag based on Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) technology with which you can pay toll charges without the need to stop for a cash transaction. It is a reloadable tag affixed to your vehicle’s windscreen. You need to link it to a prepaid account to enable a cashless transfer. Toll charges will be deducted from the affiliated account as you pass through toll plazas on the highways.

To develop the cashless system of paying toll tax, the Indian government recently inaugurated the ‘One Nation – One FASTag’ scheme, which will be effective from December 1, 2019.

FASTag is a hi-tech solution to ensure you face no hassles while traveling through Indian highways. It is currently operational at more than four hundred toll plazas across different Indian states.

What Makes FASTag Useful for Indian Citizens?

  • Saves Fuel

When you wait attoll plazas in long queues with your car engine ‘ON’, it wastes fuel. The longer the wait time, the more fuel your car burns. This also adds to the already alarming levels of air pollution. The worst part? This is not under your control. You need to stay in the queue, follow it and approach the toll plaza slowly, no matter how many or how few vehicles there are.

However, FASTag can help you save fuel. How? Once fixed to the windscreen of your vehicle, tag readers at the toll plaza will read it when you pass through them, resulting in automatic deduction of toll amount from your FASTag account. Unlike the usual way to pay toll amount in cash and get a receipt, you won’t need to stop in between your journey to paythe toll amount. No queues simply mean more fuel saving.

  • Saves Paper

Whenever you pay a toll on the highways, you get a paper receipt. The receipt is of barely any use unless you need to get the taxes reimbursed or come back again for a return journey on the same route.

With a FASTag attached to your vehicle’s windscreen, you won’t get paper receipts, nor will you need them. You will receive SMS and email alerts every time your vehicle passes through a toll plaza on the registered mobile number and email address. Also, you can check the statements by logging into your account at the FASTag customer portal.

  • Easy to RechargeFASTag Online

Just like you recharge your mobile phones or DTH connections online, you can recharge your FASTag account online through different modes, credit card, debit card, NEFT, RTGS, or net-banking facility. So, you don’t have to worry about carrying cash for toll anymore.

Now that you know what is FASTag , it’s time for you to buy FASTag now from any of the partner banks online.
