SRINAGAR, June 19: A delegation of the Federation of Associations of Tour Operators of Jammu called on N. N. Vohra, Governor, at Raj Bhavan, here today and handed over a Maruti Omni Ambulance to the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board.
Interacting with the delegation, the Governor, who is Chairman of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, lauded the gesture of the Federation for providing ambulance to the Shrine Board. He asked Navin K. Choudhary, his Principal Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Shrine Board, to see how this ambulance could be best utilized for the transportation of pilgrims who may fall sick or be involved in accidents.
The Governor enquired from the delegation about their activities vis-à-vis promotion of tourism, adding that the Government agencies, travel trade and all other stakeholders have to act in concert and take all the required measures for significantly promoting tourism in the State, which has a vast potential for generating economic activity and employment avenues. In this context, he observed that package tours suiting the pockets of different categories of tourists would require to be organized for securing the rapid growth of this important sector of the State’s economy.
Referring to the tremendous potential of adventure tourism in all the three regions of the State, particularly of white water rafting, he stressed the need of trained staff and life-saving equipment being available with all those who organize such activities.
Rajesh Gupta, Chairman of the Federation, expressed his gratitude to the Governor for taking keen interest for the promotion of tourism in the State.
In the presence of the Chairman of the Shrine Board, Mr. Gupta handed over the keys of the ambulance to Navin K. Choudhary, CEO of the Board.
The delegation of the Federation comprised Harish Kumar Gosain from Association of Jammu Travel Agents; S. S. Madni of J&K Federation of Tour Operators; Ajay Kumar Gupta of Association of Religious Tour Operators of Jammu; Amrik Singh of Jammu Association of Tour Operators; Ajay Gupta from Chenab Valley Tour Operators Association and Gurmeet Singh of Association of Adventure Tour Operators of Jammu.
Mr. Preet Pal Singh, Additional CEO of the Board, was present on this occasion.
