JAMMU, July 4: All Party’s United Morcha today reiterated their demand for restoring statehood to Jammu & Kashmir and criticized the UT administration for re-imposing Abiyana (Irrigation Tax) on farmers.
The Morcha comprising Congress, NC, PDP, IDP, CPIM and other social organizations was held under the chairmanship of Sheikh Abdul Rehman (Ex-MP) and attended by chief spokesperson JKPCC Ravinder Sharma, provincial president NC Rattan Lal Gupta, PDP spokesperson Virinder Singh Sonu, IDP leader I D Khajuria, Kishore Kumar (CPIM), Shahid Saleem (UPA), Sohit Sharma (PDP) and Narinder Singh Khalsa (Sikh Intellectual Society).
All parties meeting took exception to the statement of Lt Governor Manoj Sinha for refusing to restore statehood to J&K before elections and reiterated the demand for grant of statehood and early Assembly elections. The meeting also strongly criticized the Modi Government for the Agnipath Scheme which is anti-youth and against the Defence system of the Country. They demanded roll back of the Agnipath Scheme.
The parties also criticized the Government for the order of re-imposing Abiyana (Irrigation Tax) and recovery of the tax of last seven years, which was abolished by the previous Government in the interest of farmers. The meeting also took strong exception to the delay in enquiry into alleged bungling in the police Sub Inspector selections and demanded high level independent probe into the matter.
The meeting also expressed resentment over the pooling of J&K PG seats in All India Quota which will be of great loss to the local candidates as well as the outside students would be under no legal obligation or binding to serve in J&K post P G training.
The meeting resolved to gear up their coordinated activities in furtherance of common goal of restoration of statehood and democracy besides creating atmosphere of peace, harmony and democracy in the country.
