JAMMU, Feb 6: Member Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Shamsher Singh Manhas while chairing a meeting with officials of Urban Environmental Engineering Department (UEED) stressed on construction of nallahs for proper drainage system.
He said many areas of city are facing improper drainage system particularly in rainy season. Under Mission Swachh Bharat Abhiyan started by Prime Minister Narinder Modi, the nallahs running in precarious condition would be constructed soon.
He along with officials of UEED inspected two main nallahs in Ward No 59 near Bawa Sidh Goria Mandir Paloura. This area is highly populated and lacks proper drainage system. In rainy days people of the area face hardships as muddy water enters houses causing damage to their property.
Manhas directed Rajan Sharma, Executive Engineer, UEED to prepare detail project report of nallah starting from Bawa Sidh Goria Mandir to its tail end. Another nallah starting from Government Dispensary which is passing through thick vicinity would be covered and constructed so that people of area get proper drainage system. The estimated cost for construction of these two nallahs is approximately Rs 2 cr and funds are available with concerned department.
MP Rajya Sabha Shamsher Singh Manhas reiterated that BJP Government at Centre is committed for holistic development of State and started many development programmes under Swach Bharat Abhiyan Mission. He disclosed that another park would be constructed at Lower Roop Nagar near Tiny Tots School. For construction of park, an underground nallah would be constructed from pond to flush out the rainy water. This project also would be carried out by UEED. On this occasion UEED officials, BJP activists Jai Singh, Bahadur Singh, Radhey Sham and prominent people of area were present.
