POONCH, Aug 11: Leaders from all the communities and political parties today resolved to hold peace march in the city here tomorrow and issued appeal to the people to maintain communal harmony and brotherhood.
It was unanimously decided at a meeting convened by Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Sajjad Ahmed Khan and SP Poonch Shamsheer Hussain that a peace march would be taken out to contain the flames of flaring up tension in various districts after Kishtwar communal violence. Several senior officers in the administration were also present. Many political leaders from all the main parties, representatives from VHP, Bajrang Dal, Sanatan Dharam Sabha besides ‘Moulvis’ from various religious places attended the meeting.
Prominent among those who participated in the all party meet included Sunil Gupta (city president-BJP) and Satish Sasan from BJP, Imtiaz Bandey and Mohd Zaman advocate from PDP, Taj Mir from Congress, Harcharan Singh Khalsa from NC, Sanjay Raina from Bar Council Poonch, Basant Ram from Akhara Mandir Committee, Nishu Gupta from Bajrang Dal and Narinder Singh president District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Poonch.
During meeting, the District Administration sought the support of all party representatives and religious leaders of the area to use their influence and help in maintaining peace and brotherhood in the area as violence had been spreading after Kishtwar incident in other parts of the State. It was stressed upon by all the speakers at the meeting not to allow the situation going out of hands and maintain age old peace and communal harmony at all costs.
They also issued appeal to the people not to be influenced by the rumours being spread in the masses by some mischief mongers. On the request of the Administration it was then unanimously decided to take out a peace march in Poonch city tomorrow and leaders from various political, social and religious organizations would lead.
