We spoke to one of the renowned make-up artists, Alisha Sah from Bihar, a renowned make-up artist who shared a lot of insider secrets from her to minimize the damage done to our skin and hair by those colors. She told us that nobody likes to risk these chemicals hampering their skin and hair but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t play Holi.

With Holi just around the corner, she enlisted some easy pre and post-Holi skincare and hair care tips for all of you so that you can enjoy this festival of colors while not compromising with your skin and hair.

Pre-Holi Care

1- Everyone loves to be all dressed up for Holi, in that case, a nice oil chumpi with a neat french braid or fishtail braid would go with any Indian or western outfit.

  1. It’s best to use only organic colors that are now easily available in the market to protect against the damage caused by harmful chemicals. But to be on the safer side prep your skin well before stepping out of your home. Apply a thick layer of either Vaseline, Oil, or a thick moisturizer. This will act as a barrier to your skin.

Note – if you have oily or acne-prone skin it is better to avoid colors on the face as it can increase the spread of bacteria.

  1. Sunscreen is a must. After you are done moisturizing apply a generous amount of sunscreen on your face and neck area.
  2. Wear clothes that cover most of your skin leaving lesser exposed skin to avoid the direct contact of chemical colors with your skin as much as possible.

Post Holi Care

  1. The first thing you need to do is wash your face well with water and a good face wash or facial cleanser. Make your own exfoliator with a mix of coconut oil and sugar.
  2. A good hair wash followed by a nourishing and hydrating hair spa is very important to keep your hair healthy.
  3. Avoid make-up and let your skin breathe and feel free.
  4. Indulge in a relaxing and hydrating clean-up or facial after a week to repair the damage done to your skin from those harsh chemicals.

These tips and tricks are going to be your saviour this Holi, so Take notes!
