Srinagar, July 13: All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC)-the representative body of PRI members-today held a one-day convention in block Zainapora of South Kashmir’s Shopian.
The convention was organized by the Kashmir Unit of the organization led by G.H. Reshi, Chairman Block Development Council Zainapora, and A.K Pandita, BDC (Imamsahib).
Anil Sharma, president of AJKPC presided over the program as chief guest and during the program, local issues at Panchayat, block, and district levels faced by PRI members were highlighted by the participants who urged the Sharma to take up their genuine issues with the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir and Lieutenant Governor of J & K.
The PRI members complained about non-payment of the 2nd installment of houses allotted to beneficiaries under the PMAY Scheme, and inordinate delay caused by officers of Rural Development in clearing the genuine payments despite the submission of all bills and vouchers.
All the participants unanimously opposed e-tendering of works in their respective Panchayat Halqas valuing less than Rs 3 lacs citing the provision in Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act.
The matter of pending payment of MGNREGA was also deliberated. The other prominent issue that came for deliberation during the convention was the non-courteous approach of government officers and officials to the elected Panches, Sarpanches and BDC Chairpersons.
The convention also passed a resolution to present a memorandum to all the Deputy Commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir and also to the Assistant Commissioners Development (ACDs) of all the districts in this regard within a fortnight.
