SRINAGAR : Air traffic from Srinagar International Airport finally resumed following improvement in the weather this afternoon.
Air traffic has now been resumed as the Sun made an appearance this afternoon, leading to major improvement in the visibility, an official of airport said.
He said so far, three flights have been operated from the airport. However, morning flights, which could not operate due to poor visibility at the Airport, have not been cancelled.
These flights would also operate in addition to other scheduled flight, he added.
He said though the runway was clear of snow yesterday, due to poor visibility, no flight could land or take off from the airport this morning.
Meanwhile, hundreds of passengers, including students and tourists, are visiting airport almost daily for the past three days only to be told that flights are cancelled.
A large number of passengers could also be seen at the airport today also. However, resuming air traffic was a big relief for them, who had come from different parts of the Valley.
A good number of those associated with tourism are also visiting airport daily to receive their guests, who have booked accommodation at different tourist places, particularly world famous ski resort of Gulmarg and Pahalgam.
People associated with the industry alleged that the air-fare to and from Srinagar has witnessed sharp increase since January 6, when tourists had started arriving following first snowfall after about six month long dry spell.
”We were expecting good tourist season this winter after total loss of summer due to unrest for about six month, they said, alleging that air companies have deliberately increased the airfare on this route. Frequent closure of the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the only road linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, has also affected the tourist arrival, they alleged. (AGENCIES)
