Srinagar, Dec 24: All India Radio selected 9 youth during in its first talent hunt programme near the Line of Control during Pahari Youth Mela in North Kashmir’ s Tangdhar area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara area on Sunday.
The Producer Pahari Programme All India Radio, Srinagar, Maqsood Ahmad, told Excelsior that 9 youth were selected during the talent hunt in the category of music, mushaira and debate. These 9 youth will participate in the Radio programmes of the AIR. Maqsood said that such programmes will be held in the far flung areas so that the talented youth get an opportunity to work in AIR porgammes.
The MLA Tangdhar, Kaful-ur-Rehman, who was the chief guest on the occasion, stressed for Pahari cultural exchange with the people of the Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) as part of people to people contact. He said that the major part of the population in the PoK is Paharis and AIR should target the Paharis of the PoK. He said that AIR should act as a bridge for the Pahari speaking people of the PoK and Jammu and Kashmir.
The main attraction of the Mela was Manga, the typical Pahari dance. Besides dance, music, debate and Mushaira was part of the Pahari Youth Mela. Large number of youth from various schools and college of Tangdhar took part in the Mela that was held at Government Degree College Kandi, Tangdhar.
