JAMMU, May 31: Air Marshal BS Dhanoa, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of South Western Air Command (SWAC) today relinquished the command to Air Marshal RK Dhir. He will now move to Air HQ Delhi to assume responsibilities as the Vice Chief of Air Staff from June 1.
Air Marshal BS Dhanoa was commissioned in the fighter stream of Indian Air Force on June 8, 1978. He is an alumnus of the Rashtriya Indian Military College, National Defence Academy and a graduate from the Defence Service Staff College. The Air officer has flown over 3000 hrs on various frontline operational aircrafts and is a Cat ‘A’ Qualified Flying Instructor.
In his message to air warriors, NCs (E) and DSC personnel and civilians, he acknowledged the contribution of each and every one in enhancing the operational readiness of the Command. During his illustrious career, the Air Marshal has held various command and staff appointments including the Command of a Mig 21 Squadron and Station Commander of a frontline fighter base.
He was the first Commanding Officer of the Indian Military Training Team in Tajikistan. He has also served as Chief Instructor (Air) at Defence Service Staff College, Wellington and Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Intelligence) at Air HQ, Senior Air Staff Officer of Eastern Air Command and Western Air Command prior to assuming the present appointment of AOC-in-C, SWAC.
During his tenure as an AOC-in-C, SWAC, the Air Marshal was awarded the Ati Vishisth Seva Medal by the President of India. The Air Marshal now moves to Air HQ Delhi to assume responsibilities as the Vice Chief of Air Staff from June 1.
