NEW DELHI, July 19: A protest demonstration was held today at Teen Murti Marg, here under the auspices of All India Kashmiri Samaj, in which a large number of exiled Kashmiri Pandits and people from other organizations and parties participated. The protest was organized against Pakistan’s gross interference in the internal affairs of our country, as also Pakistan’s open support to known terrorists and their sympathizers in Kashmir.
Due to restriction imposed on any public assembly on Shanti Path and surrounding areas, particularly in front of Pakistan High Commissioner, the local police did not permit any protest in these areas. However, a memorandum was submitted to Pakistan High Commission by a delegation of AIKS.
A full throated sloganeering against Pakistan and in support of our security forces in Kashmir, were the main features of the protest.
The memorandum submitted to Pakistan High Commission said that the Kashmiri Pandits displaced from Kashmir in 1989-90, by the radical elements sponsored by your country, have been appalled to see the violent upsurge in Kashmir during the past two weeks. The whole of India is distressed to see our community members in Kashmir, pilgrims to holy Amarnath Cave and other nationalistic forces in Kashmir being subjected to stoning, threats, etc., during this period. In fact, some of our community members have already left the Valley under grave threat posed by terrorists.
Pakistan has once again succeeded in mobilizing the radical elements and armed terrorists in Kashmir, led by separatist Hurriyat Conference, to create disturbances in Kashmir, just when the holy ‘Amarnath Yatra’ had begun and the return of our displaced community to Kashmir was being considered seriously.
The Pakistan sponsored anti-national protests have paralyzed the Valley, throwing its normal life out of gear. Statements coming out from the official organs of Pakistan make it abundantly clear that Pakistan continues to use its proxies in Kashmir to implement its nefarious designs in the Valley.
The barrage of venomous propaganda unleashed by internationally recognized terrorists like Hafiz Syed and Syed Sallah-u din and their supporters in Pakistan, with the active connivance of the Government of Pakistan, are clear pointer to the machinations of your country to prevent normalcy from taking root in Kashmir Valley. The uncalled for comments made by Pakistan’s Minister of Defence against India and its duly elected Prime Minister, are evidence enough that Pakistan will go to any extent to communalize the environment, not just in Kashmir, but also in the rest of our country. The statements made by no less than Pak Prime Minister, eulogizing known terrorists belonging to proscribed organizations, are as provocative as deplorable.
“We are, therefore, holding a peaceful demonstration today to protest against Pakistan’s continued interference in our internal affairs and appeal to your Government, through you, to desist from inciting trouble and violence in Kashmir, with the objective of keeping the pot boiling in Kashmir Valley, at the cost of ordinary people of Kashmir and its youth”, the memorandum read.
