JAMMU, Apr 14: The 12th annual conference of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI) Jammu & Kashmir chapter, JAKASICON 2026, concluded successfully at AIIMS Jammu following three days of intensive academic exchange and surgical innovation.
Organized by the Department of General Surgery, the event served as a premier platform for leading surgeons, researchers, and postgraduate trainees from across the nation to share expertise and discuss the future of surgical care.
The conference was conducted under the patronage of Prof (Dr) DN Sharma, Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Jammu.
The organizing team was led by Chairperson Dr Maria Kapoor, and supported by Co-Chairperson Dr Sushma Bhardwaj, Secretary Dr Varun Dogra, Treasurer Dr Julie Singh, and Co-Organizing Secretary Dr Suneha Kumari.
ASI President Prof (Dr) D Maruthu Pandian served as the chief guest on the occasion, while Prof (Dr) Madhumita Mukhopadhyay, Treasurer of ASI, and Prof (Dr) D N Sharma were the guests of the honour.
Dr Pandian in his address underscored the critical importance of maintaining high ethical standards in modern surgical practice.

A major highlight of the scientific program was a lecture by Prof (Dr) DN Sharma on the application of brachytherapy in breast cancer treatment.
The agenda covered a wide array of specialized fields, including endocrine surgery, advanced hernia repair, thoracic surgery, and colorectal procedures.
Experts also delved into cutting-edge topics such as the integration of Artificial Intelligence in the operating room and the latest advancements in robotic and minimally invasive surgery.
Beyond lectures, the conference focused heavily on practical skill-building.
Hands-on workshops provided training in coloproctology, wound and stoma care, and Basic Life Support (BLS).
The event also fostered the next generation of medical professionals through competitive paper presentations and surgical quizzes, allowing postgraduate students to engage directly with veteran mentors.
