JAMMU, July 15: All India Backward Classes Union (AIBCU) has urged the OBCs of J&K UT in particular and country in particular to boycott 2021 census if it goes without OBCs’ census.
The issue was discussed threadbare in a meeting of the Union held today under the presidentship of Abdul Majid Malik, AIBCU president. Malik said that the census done by the British Government in 1872 and 1931 were caste based and on the basis of 1931 census, the Supreme Court pronounced its judgement on Mandal Report in 1992.
He said that census of 1931 showed that population of OBCs in the country at that time was 52% of the country’s population and Supreme Court on its own made a criteria that reservation cannot go beyond 50% and thus only 27% quota was granted by the Apex Court to OBCs.
The meeting said that after independence no census was done for OBCs. “In the year 2011, Narendra Modi made a statement that without OBC census we cannot expect development of any class and after becoming PM in 2014, he promised OBC census in his first meet of NITI Aayog on 5th Feb 2015 but reneged the other day,” the meeting observed.
The members resolved that with out census one can not make any policy for the development of any community or class, so 2021 census should be done with a separate OBC column. They unanimously decided to go on the lines of Maharashtra OBCs who have decided to boycott the 2021 census in case no separate column for OBC is made as a provision for OBC census.
