JAMMU, Aug 19: All India Backward Classes Union (AIBCU) has appealed Governor Satya Pal Malik to implement Mandal Commission Report.
Addressing a press conference here today, Santokh Chand Verma, president, AIBCU, Jammu province, said, “The OBC community welcomes the abrogation of Article 370 and 35-A by the Central Government, thereby merging J&K with India and enhancing central schemes to the State”.
Verma also termed the implementation of reservation for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) of the society a pro-people step of the Government, maintaining that it will enhance the society on the path of peace, prosperity, progress and help in social upliftment of the society.

He said now, OBC (called OSC in J&K) community is hoping for such pro-people legislation to be done for them, which had been promised by Narendra Modi Government before 2014 Lok Sabha elections. He said that OBC people have been deprived of their due rights by the successive Governments, both in the State and Centre.
Verma said that despite Apex Court verdict in 1992 for implementation of Mandal Commission report i.e. 27 % reservation in educational/ professional institutions and in Government jobs, the report was not implemented, thereby depriving the oppressed and depressed OBC community of their due share of reservation under the garb of Article 370.
The AIBCU leader appealed the Governor to implement 27 % reservation in its letter and spirit for the sake of justice to OBC people of the State.
