SRINAGAR : Ahead of rain and snow predicted from tomorrow, there was further improvement in the minimum temperature in Kashmir while Kargil continued to freeze at minus 14.8 degree.
Meanwhile, after witnessing an improvement in the night temperature yesterday in Leh, night chill revisited again as the mercury dipped and settled at minus 9.9 degree today. A Met spokesperson here today said that a fresh Western Disturbance (WD), originating an Arabian sea, is likely to hit the region tomorrow, which could result in rain and snow till February 18.
He said Pahalgam, a world famous health resort, was the coldest in Kashmir valley with minus 4.2 degree, which is two notches above normal. Temperature recorded yesterday was minus 2.2 degree. Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, recorded minus 2.2 degree, more than four notches above normal. People woke up to a sunny morning in the summer capital, Srinagar, which witnessed an improvement in the night temperature. Against minus 0.2 degree recorded yesterday, the minimum temperature was 0.6 degree, which is above normal. Meanwhile, Kargil continued to shiver with minus 14.8 degree, against minus 15 degree recorded yesterday while temperature further dipped in Leh and settled at minus 9.9, against minus 2 degree.
At Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir on Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the minimum temperature was minus zero degree while at Kokernag it was 2.4 degree, a notch above normal. (AGENCIES)
