JAMMU, Jan 21: Ahead of Republic Day, a gangster was shot dead in broad daylight by unidentified gunmen at Jewel Chowk area here today.
Sumit Jandial (37) alias Gataru son of Om Parkash of Ward number 9, Vijaypur, was driving a Thar SUV when some unidentified assailants stopped his vehicle at Jewel Chowk area and fired gunshots at him, leaving him in a pool of blood and gasping for life.

Soon after committing the crime, the accused fled the crime spot using scooties.
Upon receiving information, a police team arrived at the crime scene and shifted the injured to the Government Medical College Jammu, where he was declared as dead on arrival.
Later, senior police officers, including ADGP Jammu Anand Jain and DIG JSK Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma, also arrived at the spot.
Addressing media persons, ADGP Jammu, Anand Jain, termed the incident as “normal.”
He said the deceased individual, Sumit Jandial, was a gangster associated with the Gataru gang and was killed over an old rivalry with another gang.
He, however, didn’t identify the gang behind the attack. Click here to watch video
The ADGP Jammu further told the media persons that special teams have been constituted to nab the attackers.
He also ruled out any terror angle in the attack.
DIG JSK Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma, told the media persons that the attackers as well as the scooties they used to flee the crime scene have been identified and very soon the assailants will be behind the bars.
“We’ve identified the attackers and their scooties. They (unidentified gunmen) will be arrested and put behind the bars soon,” he assured.
He too didn’t disclose the identities of the attackers.
Meanwhile, a case under the relevant sections of the law has been registered at Police Station Nowabad and further investigation taken up.
