Srinagar, July 10: Former Speaker State Legislative Assembly and National Conference member Abdul Ahad Vakil passed away at his Rawolpora residence here on Wednesday evening.
Vakil, who was suffering from multiple-organ failures, breathed his last yesterday, family sources said.
His Nimazi Jinazah was offered Thursday afternoon at Goripora which was attended by hundreds of people.
Vakil represented Sopore, assembly segment.
Meanwhile, Governor N N Vohra has expressed grief over the sad demise of Abdul Ahad Vakil, former Minister and Speaker of the Assembly.
In a message of condolence, the Governor has expressed sympathy with Vakil’s family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has also expressed deep grief over the sad demise of Abdul Ahad Vakil.
In his condolence message, the Chief Minister highlighted the role and contribution of late Vakil in the political, developmental and social fields in Jammu and Kashmir and said that the late leader always worked for the welfare and betterment of the people.
Omar Abdullah conveyed his solidarity and sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
