JAMMU, Feb 8: Department of Agriculture has pressed into service its monitoring teams to make an on spot assessment of damages caused to vegetables, berseem, wheat, and mustard crops by the recent hailstorm in specific pockets of Jammu, Kathua, Samba and Reasi districts on February 5.
In this connection, Director Agriculture, Jammu Ajay Khajuria, alongwith Joint Director Agriculture Inputs Sushil Sahni, Chief Agriculture Officer Jammu Jatinder Sharma and other officers of the department made an extensive visit to Chohana Chak, Karloop, Tikri Khani, Akalpur-Sarora, Poni Chak and other areas of Marh Sub Division in Jammu district where heavy damage was noticed to crops in the farmers’ fields.
A number of deputations of farmers also met the Director Agriculture and reported 80-90% damage to vegetables and mustard, 30-40% damage to berseem and 20-25% damage to wheat.
Instructions have been issued by the Director Agriculture to field officers to immediately make a detailed assessment of the losses and the concerned Chief Agri Officers have been advised to furnish the crop-wise and area-wise damage reports within two days so that the issue is taken up with the concerned revenue authorities and the Government for consideration of the affected areas as hit by the Natural Calamity.
