After B&J blaze, Govt to start orthopaedic clinics in 5 Valley districts

Srinagar, Mar 6: As the delivery of services to the patients at Bone & Joint Hospital, Barzulla comes to a halt after a portion of the hospital building was gutted in a massive blaze earlier this week, the Government today identified 5 hospitals across Kashmir that will function as orthopaedic clinics round the clock while the B&J Hospital has also braced up to resume its OPD services from Monday.

In this regard, the hospitals that have been selected for the delivery of orthopaedic services include Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial (JLNM) Hospital, in Srinagar, District Hospital in Pulwama, District Hospital in Kulgam, Sub District Hospital in Kupwara and Sub District Hospital in Sopore.
Officials said that these clinics-the necessary arrangements for which will be put in place by the concerned Chief Medical Officers (CMOs)-will function round the clock keeping in view a halt in the services at B&J Hospital.
“Due to the fire incident at Bone & Joint Hospital Barzulla Srinagar on 04/03/2022, the normal functioning of the hospital has come to a halt for the time being,” an order issued here by the DHSK said.
It said that the health institutions that have been identified will run round the clock to provide orthopaedic services in the interest of patient care from Monday.
In this connection, the CMOs, as well as the Medical Superintendents of the institutions that have been identified, have been are directed to put in place all the requisite arrangements so that the Orthopaedic services to the patients are started from March 7
“The staff required for running the Orthopaedic Departments on 24×7-basis in these institutions shall be pooled by way of internal arrangements,” DHSK said.
More so, for the proper coordination & management of these Orthopaedic Clinics, Dr Mir Mushtaq, Medical Officer, DHSK has been designated as the Nodal Officer and has been directed to update the Director Health Services Kashmir about the functioning of these Orthopaedic Clinics on daily basis.
Also, the DHSK has kept at least 14 doctors at the disposal of CMO Kulgam, Pulwama, Kupwara and the Medical Superintendent, JLNM, Srinagar for the smooth functioning of the 24×7 Orthopaedic Clinics.
The services of 5 doctors have been kept available for the CMO Pulwama, 4 for CMO Kulgam, 2 for CMO Kupwara, and 3 for JLNM Hospital, Srinagar.
Further, the CMOs in the districts have been directed to provide paramedical and other support for the smooth functioning of the Orthopaedic Clinics for the interest of patient care.
Pertinent to mention here that the patients who were already undergoing treatment at the In-Patient Department of the B&J Hospital have been shifted to SHMS as well SKIMS, Bemina while the authorities said that they are working on the resume the OPD services at the hospital.
However, the Medical Superintendent, B&J Hospital Dr Mian Suhail told Excelsior that the OPD block was not affected due to the fire and that the OPD services will be started from March 7.
