Leh, Dec 6: Advisor to LG Ladakh, Umang Narula chaired a meeting, with the concerned authorities at Srinagar, Jammu, Leh and Kargil through video conference to finalize the logistic arrangements for operation of AN-32 Courier Service/ IL-76 and Helicopter services for Ladakh.
The services will cater to the travel needs of the people of Ladakh including patients and students during winters when Ladakh remains cut off due to closure of Zojila pass and other passes connecting Ladakh.
Commissioner Secretary, Civil Aviation, Ladakh Rigzin Samphel, Divisional Commissioner/ Secretary, Ladakh Saugat Biswas, DC/ CEO, LAHDC, Leh Sachin Kumar, Air Officer Commanding, Air Force Station, Leh were present in the meeting. DC/ CEO, LAHDC, Kargil Baseer Ul Haq Chaudhary, MD JK SRTC, representatives of Divisional Commissioner Srinagar/ Jammu and concerned officers from Srinagar and Jammu also participated in the meeting through video conferencing.
Advisor stated that the meeting has been convened to ensure necessary arrangements for smooth operation of air services for the passengers of district Kargil, Zanskar Sub-Division, trans Singge-la and other snow bound areas, including evacuation of patients during winter months. He stressed that the issue of connectivity to the these areas is crucial during closure of passes in winters and urged all the stakeholders to cooperate and coordinate with each other in operating the air services in an effective manner with minimum inconvenience to the passengers.
Commissioner/Secretary, Civil Aviation Rigzin Samphel enumerated the important issues including services to be provided at both the airports by Airport Authority of India, JK SRTC, Director Health & Services Kashmir. He also urged SSP Security and CRPF to cooperate and coordinate in ensuring security facilities at Srinagar and Jammu Airport in a smooth manner.
The issue of erratic scheduling of air sorties also came to fore during the meeting. The Advisor issued directions to notify the schedule of air services and inform the passengers well in advance. He also directed RTC to fix and publicize the passenger fares for the bus services being provided to the notified stations.
The Advisor asked Air Force to consider the suggestion put forth by Deputy Commissioner Kargil that AN-32 to be diverted to Leh for landing in case of bad weather advisory in Kargil, rather than cancelling the flight.
