LEH, Sept 2: Advisor, Ladakh Umang Narula chaired a meeting and reviewed the draft for Ladakh Sustainable Industrial Policy-2022 at Civil Secretariat, here.
The vision of the draft is to create an enabling ecosystem and service sectors; enhance the scale of economic development and employment opportunities and ensure sustainable development to make a self-reliant UT Ladakh.
While reviewing the draft Ladakh Sustainable Industrial Policy 2022, the Advisor stated that unambiguous categorization of industries in Red, Orange, Green and White should be made as per norms by the Ministry of Environment. He said that all enterprises must adhere to environmental protection measures as applicable by law.
The Commissioner Secretary, Industries and Commerce Department, Saugat Biswas gave a detailed presentation outlining the components and objectives of the policy. He stated that the objectives of the policy to encourage new investment in Ladakh, enhancement of ODOP programme, export of exotic products, ease of doing business, promotion of startups, upliftment of weaker/vulnerable sections, special focus on MSME, ease of doing business and balanced and integrated growth. He also apprised the Advisor of strategies and major thrust areas with a focus on carbon neutrality.
Advisor further added that emphasis should be given to promoting startups and handholding young entrepreneurs in setting up new and innovation-based industries which can contribute to exports. He stated that certification should be made mandatory for pollution control devices and quality control equipment to claim incentives and the industry should be helped in skilling its workforce.
The meeting was also attended by Principal Secretary, PD&MD Ladakh; Director, Industries and Commerce, Ladakh; Director, Finance Department, Ladakh; Joint Director, Handicraft/Handloom, Ladakh; General Manager, DIC Leh/Kargil; Industrial Promotion Officer, Leh/Kargil for information; Executive Manager, EDI Ladakh; SPMU PMFME and other concerned officials.
