SRINAGAR, July 24: Prof. Amitabh Mattoo, Advisor to the Chief Minister, met Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here today.
Prof. Mattoo briefed the Governor about the recent initiatives to meet the challenge of spreading knowledge and some of the steps underway for advancing the interests of higher education.
The Governor stressed on Prof. Mattoo the crucial importance of safeguarding the functioning of educational institutions at all levels and ensuring against the academic careers of students being wasted by unrest and disorder.
Tsering Angchok, who was recently appointed as Member of Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission also called on Governor.
Governor and Angchok discussed about the advances made by the Commission and some of the difficulties, administrative, legal and others which need to be resolved.
He stressed the vital importance of the Commission adopting transparent and impeccable standards in all processes relating to recruitments and promotions as even a marginal compromise in merit being compromised would result in undeserving persons being placed in position for 30-35 years. He advised Angchok to ensure against controversies and see that every effort is made to ensure that all stake holders repose full faith in the functioning of the Commission.
