SAMBA, May 29: District administration demolished an illegal structure belonging to Balwan Singh—the former Vice-Chairman of the District Development Council (DDC) and a BJP leader from Sumb block near here on Friday.
The structure, which consisted of two to three rooms and a tin shed, had been constructed on Government land, officials said. It was a newly built structure, its roofing had been completed over the past two days during the public holidays and it was subsequently demolished on Friday with the aid of a JCB machine.
Officials said the construction was being carried out illegally on Government land. Officials from the district administration, along with personnel from the police force, were present at the site during the demolition. Notably, the former Vice-Chairman was present at the location while the demolition was underway, but he did not create any obstacle.
People of the area demanded that the district administration should identify all those land grabbers either affiliated with political parties or having political clout and expose them before public by taking a stern action under law.
Meanwhile, further investigation into the matter has been started.
