JAMMU, Sept 7: Terming yesterday’s abrupt adjournment of sixth General House Meeting of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) by its Mayor as a ‘staged drama of BJP’, Councillors of Opposition Congress and Independents here today staged a protest demonstration asking the Mayor to call the House again within days.
“It was BJP members who raised issue of corruption during the General House Meeting of JMC which triggered the Mayor Chander Mohan Gupta, who too is from BJP, to adjourn the House indefinitely,” the protesting Councillors said.
They also raised slogans in favour of their demand of calling the House again and flayed JMC and its Mayor.
Independent Councillor, Dr Yudh Vir Singh told Excelsior that it seems they (BJP members and the Mayor) did not want to let others raise their voices in the House.
“That is why the Mayor adjourned the House. If he was serious to run the House proceedings and solve public issues there, he would have adjourned the House for some hours only,” Singh maintained.
He said that that the Mayor should call the House again within days as public issues are required to be addressed.
Congress Councillor, Rajni Bala said, while adjourning the House the Mayor had said that he will not call the General House Meeting again for the next 5-6 months.
“This is very irresponsible attitude as every day we face lot of public questions and resentment which cannot be addressed without the General House meeting,” she further said hoping that good-will may prevail soon and the Mayor may call the House again within days.
Another Independent Councillor, Sham Lal said that they have given a 10 day time to the Mayor to call the House again and if the same is not done then the Independent and Congress Councillors will decide the next course of action.
Independent Councillors Anu Bali, Sucha Singh, Sobat Ali, Amit and Congress Councillors Dwarka Chowdhary, Bhanu Mahajan, Ritu Chowdhary, Gorav Chopra, Pritam Singh and others were present in the protest demonstration.
