JAMMU, Apr 21: Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Armed, S M Sahai today visited Nud Samba to review the preparedness of Mountain Rescue Teams (MRTs) of J&K Police for the forthcoming annual Amarnath Ji Yatra.
The teams are undergoing specialised mountain rescue training and other courses to tackle difficult situations during natural disasters in Nud area of Samba district.
During the visit, the ADGP reviewed the preparedness of MRTs that are to be deployed during annual pilgrimage to ensure safety and convenience of devotees. Apart from being trained in high altitude mountain rescues, MRTs are also being trained to tackle difficult situations during natural disasters like floods and earthquakes for ensuring the safety of men and material.
Mr Sahai said that MRTs of J&K Police are fully geared up to serve during the annual pilgrimage. He said that several teams comprising of experienced and well trained mountaineers would be deployed during the yatra season at critical points of Pissu Top, Nagakoti-Jogibal, Sheshnag, M.G Top, Sangam etc for safety and convenience of pilgrims.
The ADGP said that the MRTs are trained for high altitude advance mountaineering, search and rescue operations from reputed institutions of mountaineering across the country to carry out rescue operations in high altitudes during Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.
Among others the ADGP was accompanied by IGP IR Jammu, Youginder Koul, Staff officer to ADGP Armed Javed Iqbal Mattoo, Commandant IRP 17th Bn, R R Bhagat and Addl. SP Samba Faisal Qureshi.
