Adequate steps taken to prevent, control swine flu, dengue: Govt

Srinagar, Oct 6: As the winter is approaching, the Government today said that it has taken steps to prevent and control swine flu, dengue and yellow fever in the hospitals of State.
In a written reply to Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Muhammad Muzaffar Parray, the Health and Medical Education Minister, Lal Singh, stated that Government  has issued advisories to Chief Medical Officers (CMOs), Medical Superintendents, Block Medical Officers (BMOs) and other officers including Integrated Disease Surveillance Project (IDSP)  teams and Rapid Response Team (RPT).
“Antiviral drugs in sufficient quantity have been made available in the State/District hospitals. Orders for procurement of vaccines have been placed,” the Government stated, adding that the Health Department is holding mass awareness programmes regarding these diseases through electronic and print media.
“A separate ward for B H1 N1 patients will be made available in district and sub-district hospitals. For category C H1N1 patients all the facilities including lab facility have been available at Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS),” the Government said in reply.
The Government further said that it has deputed a team of doctors to airport to screen the pilgrims coming from Hajj pilgrimage.
With regards to dengue, the Government said that the confirmed cases of dengue fever who are admitted in the hospitals are given supportive treatment/care with analgesics, fluid replacement and bed rest. “The patients are encouraged to take plenty of oral fluids mixed with salt and sugar. Tablet Acetaminophen (paracetamol) is used to treat fever and relieve other symptoms like headache, retro orbital pain and marked muscle and joint pains,” it stated.
The Government said that the confirmed cases of dengue who get admitted in hospitals are duly segregated from other patients. “Isolated wards have been earmarked in the concerned hospitals for such patients so as to avoid further spread of the said fever,” the Government said. It further stated that the “sentinel surveillance hospitals have been established in Jammu province at GMC Jammu, District Hospital Kathua, District Hospital Udhampur, District Hospital Doda, District Hospital Samba, Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar and Sarwal to provide dengue fever test facilities to people.
The Government claimed that in order to contain the further spreading of the dengue, the Health Department is carrying antilarval and anti-mosquito measures in likely to be effected areas of the province in collaboration with Jammu Municipal Corporation authorities.
