Action to be initiated against those showing laxity in empowerment of PRIs : Sagar

SRINAGAR, July 24:  Maintaining that the Government has already ensured the empowerment of Panchayati Raj Institutions, the Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Ali Mohammad Sagar today said that strict action would be initiated against the officials who will show laxity for implementing the same.
The Minister was addressing a gathering of Panchs and Sarpanchs during one day convention to oversee the status of implementation of the empowerment of Panchayati Raj Institutions and also conduct on spot grievance redressal review of flagship schemes at Budgam, here today.
The Minister for Science and Information Technology Aga Syed Ruhullah, Minister of State for Rural Development Aijaz Khan, Deputy Commissioner Budgam Khurshid Ahmed Shah, Director Rural Development Kashmir, Mir Altaf Ahmed, Additional District Development Commissioner Budgam Mohammad Akbar Ganaie and senior officers of different departments were also present.
Reaffirming the Government’s endeavour to ensure that the orders of empowerment are implemented in letter and spirit, the Minister said that Additional District Development Commissioners have been appointed as the Nodal Officers for overseeing that the proper empowerment is done. “The Government is committed for ensuring the decentralization of powers at the grass root level and in this regard no laxity would be tolerated”. He maintained.
Mr. Sagar said that the Panchayati Raj representatives should work in coordination with the officers of different executing agencies so that the different schemes are properly implemented. He said that a proposal for remuneration of Panchs and Sarpanchs has been sent to the concerned quarters for clearance.
The Minister for Science and Information Technology Aga Syed Ruhullah, while speaking on the occasion said, that the Government has successfully conducted the Panchayati Raj elections to ensure a new era of sustained and overall development of the rural and far flung areas and involved the local representatives in the implementation of the various schemes.
The Minister of State for Rural Development, Aijaz Khan said that by putting in place the Panchayati Raj institutions, the Government has ensured the effective decentralization of powers and certain funds are also being placed at the disposal of these for undertaking development of their respective areas.
