KATHUA/SAMBA, July 24: At least sixty persons were injured some of them seriously when a Katra Vaishnodevi bound bus coming from UP turned turtle near Dayala Chak in Kathua and two other vehicles collided in another mishap near Samba, on Jammu-Pathankot National Highway this afternoon.
Reports said a bus bearing registration No. DL-IPV/7101 was on way to Katra Vaishnodevi from Gorakhpur in Utter Pradesh. When it reached near Dayala Chak flyover of rail track at around 4.30 pm, the driver had wink of sleep and the vehicle rolled down and turned turtle.
The traffic on the busy Highway came to a stand still as the bus fell down. The people from vehicles ran towards the accident site for rescue operation. The police party led by SHO Hiranagar, Karamjeet Singh along with Flying squad also rushed and reached immediately. The police and locals shifted all the 54 passengers to Hiranagar hospital. While some of them were discharged after providing first aid, 19 others were referred to district hospital Samba.
The SHO said that 11 of them had received fractures and they were referred to Samba hospital. He said the driver escaped from the spot immediately after the accident but was arrested later. He was identified as Ram Lagan, son of Pardesi, resident of Gorakhpur. A case has been registered against him. He said that all the accident victims were out of danger.
Nineteen injured pilgrims shifted to Samba hospital were identified as Jai Kumar, Deshwati, Amarwati, Sona, Pramsheela, Ram Parkash, Reemawati, Bachi Devi, Parkash Ram, Pati Panch, Kanheya Lal, Ramwati, Prem, Sheela Devi, Ram Lakhan, Kamalwati, Ashok Kumar, Koushlya Devi, Sajapan and Ram Partap.
Meanwhile, seven persons were injured after a Tata Sumo collided with a mini truck at Nanke Chak near Vijaypur in district Samba today. The mishap took place when the Sumo No. JK-12/1955, was on way to Poonch from Pathankote.
It collided with load carrier No. JK02AU/4957.
All the injured were shifted to Samba hospital. They were identified as Mohd Akram, Hakam Din, Farid Ahmed, Bashir Din, Haji Mohd Akram, Showkat Hussain and Mohd Sharief of Poonch. Later, Showkat and Hakam Din were referred to GMC hospital, Jammu. The police has taken cognizance of the matter.
