SRINAGAR, June 4: In what could be termed as one of the worst days of road mishaps in Kashmir nine persons lost their lives in separate road accidents across the Valley over the past 24 hours. Nine others were injured in the mishaps and condition of some of them was stated to be serious.
The dead included two residents of Pune while as two other residents of Maharashtra were injured and have been admitted at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura here.
Reports said that a Chevrolet Tavera going to Jammu from Srinagar and bearing registration number JK01Q/9951 collided with an oil tanker No. JK02N/7349 near Charsoo, Awantipora on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway. The head on collision was such deadly that four passengers traveling in the Tavera died on spot.
The dead were identified as Rajindra Kourda son of Ram Chander resident of Pune, Bargoie daughter of Deenawat, also resident of Pune, Mohammad Yousuf Kuchay son of Wali Mohammad resident of Barsoo-Awantipora and Farooq Ahmad Kuchay son of Mohammad Ramzan Kuchay, also resident of Barsoo-Awantipora.
Four more persons identified as R.S Pawar son of Shanker Pawar, Meena Kourda wife of Ram Chander, residents of Pune, Zahoor Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Rasool resident of Konibal-Pampore, driver of the ill fated Tavera and Rajinder Singh son of Bhagwan Singh, resident of Doda driver of the oil tanker received injuries in the incident.
The injured were first shifted to a local hospital, but as their condition was critical they had to be rushed to SKIMS-Soura, for treatment. Both the vehicles skidded off the road and fell into nearby paddy field due to the impact of the collision. Police has registered a case in this regard and further investigations have been taken up.
An accident took place between two motorcycles at foreshore road near the famous tourist spot of Nishat garden. The mishap resulted in on spot death of one of the motorcyclists identified as Tanveer Ahmad Sheikh aged 20 years son of Mohammad Maqbool Sheikh resident of Malpora, Ganderbal. Three others were injured in the mishap.
The injured were shifted to SKIMS-Soura, for treatment, where one of them identified as Mohammad Iqbal Bhat aged 20 years son of Mohammad Maqbool Bhat resident of Malpora-Ganderbal succumbed to his injuries. Police has registered a case and further investigations have been taken up.
A Trawler bearing registration number JK02AP/7857 hit a motorcycle bearing registration number JK05A/8224 near Hyderbeigh-Pattan on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway.
The collision led to on spot death of motorcycle driver Ishfaq Ahmad Mir aged 23 years son of Ghulam Mohammad resident of Check Seri-Pattan and injuries to pillion identified as Aaqib Javid Rather son of Ghulam Nabi, also a resident of Check Seri Pattan. Aaqib was shifted to SKIMS-Soura for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries. A case has been registered and investigations have been initiated.
A Maruti car bearing No. JK01F/8595 collided with another Maruti car No. JK01K/3544 at Rayil Gund, Ganderbal. The collision resulted in the death of Niyaz Ahmad Bazaz, 55, son of Noor Ahmad, resident of Chatabal-Srinagar.
A truck bearing No. JK03C/3215 hit a Chevrolet Tavera No. JK01L/8246 at Damjan-Qazigund in Kulgam district. The mishap resulted in minor injuries to three passengers traveling in Tavera. The injured were shifted to hospital for treatment.
