ACB nabs SI with Rs 1 lakh

JAMMU, Sept 7: Anti- Corruption Bureau (ACB) has caught a police officer red- handed while accepting a bribe of Rs one lakh in Rajouri town last night from the relatives of a drug-peddler for facilitating his release.
Official sources said that an amount of Rs 3 lakh had been demanded as bribe by the Sub Inspector, Suresh Kumar Sharma, Incharge Police Post, Rajouri City. This was the first installment of Rs one lakh which was delivered by the relatives of Sharanjeet Singh, son of S Kartar Singh, resident of Sant Market, Jewel Chowk, Jammu.
Sharanjeet had been arrested by Rajouri police party three days ago along with some narcotic substance from Jewel Chowk area of Jammu on some specific inputs. The youth was taken to Rajouri by cops. The Police Officer Suresh, struck a deal with Ajay Paul Singh, uncle of the accused, a resident of Sant Market Jammu to facilitate his release in exchange of Rs 3 lakhs. The officer agreed to take Rs one lakh as advance and Rs 2 lakh later after bail of Sharanjeet Singh.
The family members of the accused reported the matter to Anti-Corruption Bureau, Jammu. Accordingly, a trap was laid and the Police Sub Inspector was arrested in presence of independent witnesses while accepting Rs one lakh cash from Ajay Pal Singh last night in Rajouri town. He was shifted to Jammu during early hours today.
The Police Station, Anti Corruption Bureau, Rajouri registered a case FIR No. 02/2019 u/s 5(1) (d) read with Section 5(2) J&K PC Act Svt.2006 and section 4-A of J&K P.C (Amendment) Act, 2014 in this connection.
Even the complainant had recorded the conversation with the police officer in which he was repeatedly demanding money.
It is pertinent to mention here that Sharanjeet Singh was arrested by Police Station Rajouri on the ground of recovery of narcotic substance for which investigation of the case was going on. Sharanjeet Singh was kept in custody of Police Post City, Rajouri where a deal was struck by the SI with his family members.
Subsequently, the ACB teams conducted searches in the house of accused Sub Inspector situated at Saran, Ghou-Manhasan in Jammu today in connection with investigation of the case. Further investigation was in progress.
